Finding the right pushchair can bring in many different considerations. There are many different types of pushchairs available that were not available ten years ago. The choice is a lot better than it used to be and you can now get a model that suits your needs and your type of lifestyle.
If you are new to the world of pushchairs then there may be many different considerations that you are not aware of and may have looked at a few models and are purely basing your choice on looks such as style and colour. You need to consider how it is going to be used, how often you are going to use it and where you are going to use it.
You can get twin pushchairs or double pushchairs if you have twins or two young children. There are generally two styles that of the twin pushchair that has two seats next to each other. The second type is the tandem pushchair where one seat is in front of the other. Tandems have the advantage of being able to fit through most doorways. You can also get a triple which has three seats side by side.
Another consideration is whether you want a forward or rear facing model. There is much debate about whether or not your baby or toddler should be facing forwards so they can see where they are going and what is going on. Or if they should be facing towards you so that you can interact with them.
This is something you need to consider and go with what you feel most comfortable with. You can however buy one of the reversible seat pushchairs that allow you to change the seat round to face either front or back.
Pushchairs come in a number of designs, one such feature is the 3 wheeler chairs rather than the traditional 4 wheeler buggy. Again this is more of a style than a practical feature although some people prefer one over the other for stability or manoeuvrability.
If you are going to be out and about quite a lot you need to make sure the model you choose has adequate winter, rain and wind protection as well as shade for the summer. Being able to swap whilst you are out and about is a plus especially in our changeable British climate.
You can get pushchairs that are multifunction, they can tip back to lay your baby flat like in a traditional pram or move forward to act as a buggy. Some models also allow you to detach the seat to be used as a carrycot which can be an invaluable feature especially when visiting friends and relatives.
Babies also spend quite a bit of time sleeping in their pushchair, we spend a lot of thought on thier moses basket and spend money on buying moses basket covers so you should also consider how well it will work for a place for your baby to sleep. Young babies can spend almost as much time sleeping in their prams as they do their moses baskets.
The weight of your model should also be a consideration. Is a particular model light enough to lift easily if you need to store it away in a cupboard or indeed lift into the boot of a car. There are collapsible models available that are lightweight and are designed to be folded up so they are easy to fit into your car boot.
